Community policing

Regular contact with residents, education, and building trust between the Sheriff’s Office and the people it serves.

“Residents need to know how to safely communicate with us, and that we’re not just cops, but also people who care.”

Proactive patrols

Prevention, visibility, and readiness rather than relying solely on responding after an incident occurs.

“I want to expand around-the-clock coverage. Staffing, scheduling, funding, and coordination would need to be assessed to establish a workable plan.”

Local partnerships

Stronger relationships among county entities, neighboring agencies, and community resources.

“If there is a program that helps county members, the sheriff’s office should partner with it, learn about it, and use it.”

Professional standards

Accountability, professionalism, and service. Ongoing training at the center of deputy readiness, and public trust built on transparency and fair treatment.

“We cannot just go to the police academy and stop learning.”

Keeping children safe

Building trust with young people, supporting education, and helping children understand how to communicate safely with deputies.

“I want every child in Dolores County to know our deputies by name and feel safe coming to us for help.”

Caring for seniors

Relationships with senior services and welfare checks for residents who may need additional support.

“Seniors represent our legacy and are the heart of rural Colorado.”
